College Football Week Five Picks
After going a perfect 4-0 last week, I’m looking to keep the ball rolling but unfortunately I hate this week’s slate. Nothing immediately jumped out at me, but after some more digging I think I’ve found a few winners. We’ll see if we can keep the streak going.
Georgia -24.5 (-108) vs Vanderbilt (1 Unit)
Jared Curtis might one day blossom into a really solid starting quarterback in the SEC. But he is not going to do it this weekend in Athens. Georgia is looking like the best team in the country, and Vanderbilt looks more a little more like Vanderbilt than they have in recent years. I do not expect this game to be competitive. I think Georgia will completely stifle Vanderbilt’s offense, and just slowly but surely chip away at their defense until its 41-3 heading into the fourth quarter.
Florida Team Total Over 30.5 (-130) vs Missouri (1 Unit)
Florida’s defense remains a bit of a question mark for me, but there are no questions surrounding Jadan Baugh and this Florida offense. They are as legit as it gets. I’m staying away from the spread in this game, because I think there is a chance that the SEC has found itself in the midst of a chain reaction of letdown spots. LSU had a clear letdown spot against Ole Miss, who then followed it up with a clear letdown spot against Florida. Now Florida might be in a bit of a letdown position, though I don’t think Missouri is a good enough team to keep the chain going. Even if this does turn out to be a letdown spot for Florida, I think they would lose because of their defense, not because of the offense.
Kamario Taylor Over 259.5 Passing Yards (-107) vs Alabama (1 Unit)
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Kamario Taylor is averaging 277 pass yards per game so far this year, so as long as Vegas keeps setting the line at 259.5, I’m going to keep taking it. I’m well aware that one of these weeks I’ll probably get burned, but Kamario Taylor has been my biggest money-maker so far this season, so even if I do get burned I’ll be well in the green. Again, this is one of those games where I am staying away from the spread and point total like they are infected with the plague. I really do believe in this Mississippi State team, and I think they can keep this game close and maybe even pull out a win, but if you told me this game ended 45-21 Alabama, I also wouldn’t be too surprised. Whether MSU wins or loses, they’re going to be throwing the ball a lot today. Alabama’s secondary has looked weak at times, and if MSU wants to compete they will be taking advantage of that. I’m also sprinkling a little bit on over 319.5 passing yards at +331.
Summary
Georgia -24.5 (-108) vs Vanderbilt (1 Unit)
Florida Team Total Over 30.5 (-130) vs Missouri (1 Unit)
Kamario Taylor Over 259.5 Passing Yards (-107) vs Alabama (1 Unit)
Kamario Taylor Over 319.5 Passing Yards (+331) vs Alabama (0.33 Units)
