Weekend Recaps and Monday Night Picks

Friday

Cleveland Guardians ML (-130) at Toronto Blue Jays - 1.00 Units

Result: WIN, +0.77 Units

This one was pretty much over before it started. The Guardians jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and for the most part cruised their way to a win. The Blue Jays did make it interesting in the 9th inning, getting their first two runners on base, but then proceeded to ground into a double play and fly out to center field. This closing performance from Cade Smith does raise concerns for me. He has not been good at all this season, and if he doesn’t turn it around soon, the Guardians may need to look for a new closer before the trade deadline.

LeBron James to Record a Triple-Double at Houston Rockets (+710) - 0.50 Units

Result: LOSS, -0.50 Units

Yeah, the bet lost, but I don’t really care. 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists (including one to his CHILD) at 41 years old in a playoff game is one of the most absurd things I’ve ever seen. LeBron continues to break records and do things that have never been done before in the history of the sport on a near daily basis. The assist to Bronny is something that will likely never be replicated again, unless LeBron sticks around long enough to play a season with Bryce. At this point, I’m just going to cherish every single masterclass that I get to watch from the greatest basketball player of all time.

Saturday:

Cleveland Guardians ML at Toronto Blue Jays (line unpublished) - 1.00 Units

Result: LOSS, -1.00 Units

Ugly, ugly, ugly. Just about all of the Guardian’s problems boiled over on Saturday against the Blue Jays. Runners left stranded, bad fielding errors (Juan Brito I’m looking at you), and a bad performance from the bullpen all plagued the Guardians en route to a X-X loss. There’s a lot to work out for this team if they are going to be serious contenders, but until they can make a move I hope they can continue to hover a little bit above .500 and maybe even keep the division lead (which we inexplicably still hold)

New York Knicks ML (-130) at Atlanta Hawks - 1.00 Units

Result: WIN, +0.77 Units

This was definitely my best read of the weekend. As I said on Friday, the Hawks are just a vastly inferior team compared to the Knicks. My only regret is that I didn’t take the spread in this game, because this was Knicks domination from start to finish. They came out with the exact urgency and physicality that I expected from a team down 2-1 on the road.

Sunday:

Cleveland Guardians ML at Toronto Blue Jays (line unpublished) - 0.50 Units

Result: LOSS, -0.50 Units

Never felt confident about this because of Slade Cecconi, but it actually ended up being another bullpen meltdown that lost this game for the Guardians.

Cleveland Cavaliers -3.5 (-110) at Toronto Raptors - 1.00 Units

Result: LOSS, -1.00 Units

Okay, lesson learned. Never, EVER stake your entire mental well-being on the city of Cleveland. They will always find a way to let you down. This was one of the most disgusting basketball games I have ever seen. It felt like at any point in the game, either team could have easily taken over if they had just made the very simple decision to stop shooting threes. However neither team did and it resulted in one of the ugliest, brick-filled games of all time. James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen all played like their brains got replaced by steaming piles of shit, and any faith I had in this team is gone. They may wind up lucking their way into an Eastern Conference Finals birth by way of a tremendously easy path, but the Boston Celtics will do unholy things to this team.

Total Weekend Results: -1.46 Units

Not the result I wanted, but ultimately nothing I’m too worried about. I’m in on the Guardians for the long haul, and I can’t get too worried about one series loss on the road. The Cavs game is on me, I admit that one, but I’m going to lock back in and try to get some wins throughout the week.

Monday Picks

With that said, I have two picks for Monday night.

Cleveland Guardians ML (-143) vs Tampa Bay Rays - 1.00 Units
